PERIODONTICS
Regular Cleanings
Professional cleanings remove tartar and staining that regular brushing and flossing cannot get rid of.
- Our team will use small ultrasonic instruments that vibrate to loosen and rinse off bacterial plaque and calculus, followed by polishing with a dental paste.
- We recommend all patients to receive two dental cleanings each year. If you have a history of gum disease, you may need additional maintenance cleanings.

Deep Cleanings
A deep cleaning (a periodontal scaling and root planing) is the first step to treat gum disease (periodontal disease).
- Typically, we give local anesthesia to ensure a comfortable experience. Special techniques will be used to remove plaque, tartar, and bacteria located below the gumline.
- After treatment, patients should return for a consultation with our specialist to ensure proper healing.
MYTHS ABOUT SCALING

Scaling if done after proper diagnosis and using proper instruments & correct methods is the best tool to give your gums a healthy long life.
The process of scaling removes the deposits on your tooth including extrinsic stains. It does not improve the natural colour of your teeth. Scaling will only remove the deposits! Polishing serves to smoothen the surface of your teeth after scaling so that it becomes difficult for stains and debris to stick to your teeth.
Teeth movement can be because of a various causes ranging from periodontal disease to trauma and old age.
Just like I mentioned above, scaling cannot make any new damage. It doesn’t create gaps between teeth.
With the onset of gum disease, the gaps between the tooth are filled with tartar. When this tartar is removed by scaling, the teeth get exposed to the oral environment and become moderately sensitive. In most cases, the sensitivity vanishes in a couple of days.
Contrary to popular belief, scaling is a virtually painless process, with the patient feeling a mild scraping sensation on the teeth during the procedure.
Home Care
Proper oral hygiene at home is key to maintaining oral health.

Osseous Surgery
- Osseous surgery (or pocket reduction surgery) treats periodontal disease and prevent future tooth loss.
- The gums are pulled back to remove bacteria deep inside pockets while damaged bones with irregular.

Crown Lengthening
- Crown lengthening is done to make teeth longer to improve esthetic of gummy smiles or create space for dental crowns/ veneers.
- Excess gum and bone tissue is reshaped to expose more of the natural tooth.
- This is minor surgical procedure with minimal post-operative discomfort.
- Crown lengthening is often performed with otherdental procedures like crowns or venner to give the patient optimal esthetic result.

GINGIVAL RECESSION TREATMENT
Gum Rejuvenation (or Gum Regeneration) treats gum loss that can lead to sensitivity, cavity, or even tooth loss.
- Our specialists use minimally invasive surgical techniques to restore previous gum line and thicken the gum tissue to prevent future gum loss.
- After numbing the mouth, gums are loosened and repositioned. A gum graft from either patient’s own gum tissue or donor tissue is tucked underneath and secured with sutures.
- Healing usually takes a couple of weeks.

BONE REGENERATION
Bone grafts restore bone loss around teeth or previously lost teeth.
- When performed around existing teeth, it creates more support for teeth, allowing them to last longer.
- Grafting is routinely done at time of tooth removal to preserve the existing bone volume for future dental implants.
- Bone grafts can also be done in areas with missing teeth to grow back lost bone in order to support dental implants or other dental restorations.
- This is a minor surgical procedure performed by our specialist. Bone graft material will be placed in the area needed and allowed to heal.
